Ahh! Beer on the beach!

After walking about a mile or so along the boardwalk, fatigue and hunger caught up with us and we decided it was time for a beer and something to eat. It was now about 5:30 or so, to early for dinner, but we had to have something. Fries to the rescue! We split and order of patas frites (something like) and a couple of cold San Miguel's.

We also called my Mom and wave hi to her across the Mediteranean, as she is vacationing in Nice'. She and her friend Judy got in the day before us, but their trip did not go quite as smoothly. They arrived in Nice', but their luggage did not! Not until the next day, at around 1pm.

Strolling the Boardwalk

After our shower and change of clothes, we went for a walk. Our wanderings took us to the beach. According to the tour books, Barcelona has 4.5km of beach front. Barceloneta (the district where we are staying) is said to be one of the busiest since it is closest to the center of town. This picture does not do it justice. The beach area at the end of Passeig Joan de Borbo was packed. A little further down, heading toward the Olympic beach, was not as crowded.

Topless bathing, you ask? Oh yes it is true. That's why we had to take a photo in a less crowded zone. We didn't want to get arrested!

Street People

Ok. There is a story to this. When we arrived in Barcelona, I called the rental agency as instructed. I spoke with a pleasant woman named Erika. It was about 11:30 when I called and she told me that check in was not until 2pm. However, our maid was at the condo and we could go there and leave our bags. She then confirmed that there were two of us.... and an infant. I informed her there was no infant. To that she was very much surprised. Then she gave me the address for the condo. It was not the same address I had on the confirmation. That's when Erika realized she had two Basile's checking in that day.

Having avoided that calamity. We did face another. The Maid would not be at our condo until 1pm or later. Erika suggested going to the train station, the Estacio de Franco, and depositing our bags there and wait until the "concierge" would arrive at 2:15 to complete the contract.

So that is what we did. We took a taxi to the train station. Went through security there and into the locker room. Unfortunately, all the large lockers were occupied. So, we hired another taxi and had him drive us the half kilometer distance (which was about a 4k ride because of one way streets, etc.) and drop us off in front of Carrer de Parades 1. It was now about 12:40. Nothing for us to do, but wait on the street with our luggage...

On the plane to Barcelona

We have arrived

On the plane to Barcelona

Well it is a little late, and Karen has the middle seat, but we are onboard!

It's 2 hours flying time. Chance to sleep

KLM Loading the Jet

This is the scene outside as we wait to board our flight to Barcelona. As you can see, it is a gray day in Holland. It is supposed to get to 80 here today.

Schiphol

This is the wating area for our KLM flight to Barcelona. Looks like it is going to be a packed flight. We only had 1 hour from departing the plane to get to this flight and we had to get from E34 to D85, including through Passport Control. We made it, and now, of course, the flight is delayed. Hurry up and wait....

We've arrived

A little late, but we got here. Now we gotta get off this plane and to our next one. In a hurry!

Breakfast is Delivered

Didn't eat dinner, but was sure to have breakfast on the plane. Two meals on one flight! When does that ever happen?

I slept ok. Not great. Actually woke up a lot. The seat just was not comfortable. Seemed like it cut off circulation. Karen slept a couple of hours too. Some sleep is better than none.

Emailing from the Pda

Karen just noted that I have belly.

Thanks

Well 6am and it's daylight out. What's this! Another plane flying in parallel. You don't see that often.

Where's breakfast?
